You will be responsible for providing technical knowledge and day-to-day support of The Christie’s SharePoint environments both on-premises and cloud, along with supporting the NHS shared tenancy, ensuring staff have a seamless experience.

Point of escalation for technical advice, assistance, and resolution, regarding SharePoint, OneDrive and other 365 services for staff across the trust and any external partners.

Oversee the administration and optimisation of our SharePoint On-Premises and Online environments, aligning it with our organisational goals.

Ensure the optimal performance, availability, and security of our SharePoint platform across the NHS National tenancy.

Provide technical support for SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft 365 applications, utilising our IT Service Management (ITSM) tool for incident tracking and resolution.

Collaborate with various teams and clinical areas across the Trust to understand their SharePoint needs and provide effective solutions.

Deliver training sessions and workshops to enhance staff proficiency and encourage widespread adoption of SharePoint and OneDrive.

Contribute to strategic planning and execution for process optimisation, communication enhancement, and user experience improvement on the SharePoint platform.

Manage user accounts and licenses within the Microsoft 365 environment, ensuring efficient resource utilisation.

Uphold stringent data protection and security standards in line with Trust policies and national guidelines, in collaboration with our Cyber Security and Information Governance Teams.

Provide regular reports to management on the status and performance of the SharePoint platform.

The Christie Digital team is passionate about improving outcomes for our patients by digitally enabling clinical cancer services. Delivery of our digital services are the mechanism for that improvement, making this role an exciting opportunity to really make a difference. The Christie digital ambition over the next 5 years will: -


  • Provide better use of digital solutions to improve the experience for both the staff and the patient experience.

  • Digital technologies to enhance the new outpatients’ service and creating a seamless patient flow through the hospital from arrival to the clinic.

  • Provide an openEHR platform that supports the development of world-renowned research and innovation.

  • Expand our digital services to support staff to deliver the high standards of care across a wider networked care model.

  • Delivery of a richer data model to capture the whole health record, to ensure better decision-making, efficient services and improve care across the Greater Manchester area.

  • Leverage the investment in a locally developed EHR based on openEHR standard

As a Trust we want to stay at the forefront of care through new technological advances including Proton Beam, Bio Medical Research and experimental cancer therapies. As the Christie’s Digital Service, we need to deliver the digital platforms to support these advances.


Your main duties and responsibilities will include:


  • SharePoint Administration: Act as the primary expert for both on-premises SharePoint and Online environments, overseeing aspects such as site collections, user permissions, workflows, and web parts. This includes managing day-to-day operations, implementing

changes, and ensuring alignment with our organisational objectives.


  • Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor and maintain our SharePoint environments to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security. This includes proactively identifying potential risks or issues, conducting performance tuning, upgrading/patching, and ensuring a robust disaster recovery strategy is in place for both the NHS National tenancy and Education tenancy.

  • Technical Support & Incident Management: Serve as a subject matter expert for all technical issues related to SharePoint 365 and on-premises, OneDrive, and other Microsoft 365 applications. Utilise our IT Service Management (ITSM) tool to effectively manage, track, and resolve incidents. Follow a structured approach to troubleshooting, escalate issues as necessary, and communicate updates to impacted users. Conducting root cause analysis

and implementing preventative measures to minimise future occurrences.


  • Collaboration and Training: Foster strong relationships with various teams across the organisation to understand their SharePoint needs and address them effectively. Conduct training sessions and workshops to improve staff competency and encourage the widespread adoption of SharePoint as a collaboration tool.

  • Strategic Development: Work in tandem with the Digital Applications Lead, EUC Architect, and other members of the Digital Services team including our Clinical teams to shape and execute strategies that streamline business processes, facilitate effective communication,

and enhance the overall user experience on the SharePoint platform.


  • Account and License Management: Oversee user account management, from creation to deletion, across the Microsoft 365 environment. This includes provisioning licenses, managing user access based on role requirements, and ensuring efficient utilisation of available resources.

  • Compliance and Security: Implement and uphold stringent data protection and security standards in line with Trust policies and national guidelines. Collaborate closely with our Cyber Security, and Information Governance Team to ensure SharePoint environment

adheres to these policies and respond swiftly to potential security incidents.


  • Reporting and Documentation: Regularly communicate with management about the status and performance of the SharePoint platforms. Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date

documentation of SharePoint configuration, user guides, incident reports, and resolution procedures to enhance knowledge management and future troubleshooting.


  • Staying Updated: Keep abreast of the latest developments, trends, and best practices in the SharePoint and Microsoft 365 landscape. Regularly engage in professional development opportunities to constantly enhance your skills, knowledge, and keep the Trust at the forefront of digital collaboration.

  • Vendor Management: Establish a positive working relationship with Microsoft support and other third-party vendors. This includes liaising for technical assistance, procuring additional services, or seeking advice on platform improvements to meet our evolving needs.

  • Project Management: Plan, manage, and execute Microsoft 365 related projects, ensuring that deliverables are completed on time, within scope, and in alignment with organisational objectives.
