Job Description



We have an excellent permanent Head of IT Procurement job opportunity to head up our client's IT Departments' supplier management strategy. The role is hybrid working based in Manchester and includes excellent holiday allocation and generous pension contribution.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to the following:-



    Develop and execute a comprehensive supplier management strategy aligned with IT department’s overall goals and objectives. Including identifying and segmenting suppliers based on their strategic importance and risk profiles.


    Ensure contract negotiations are secure favourable terms and conditions. Ensure all supplier contracts are well-drafted, compliant, and regularly reviewed for accuracy and effectiveness.


    Develop and drive effective software license and asset management.


    Build and maintain strong management information, governance, policies, and procedures. Regularly report to senior management on the status of third-party relationships and risk mitigation plans.


    Collaborate with key stakeholders, including Legal, Compliance, Procurement, Privacy, and Information Security and align risk management practices with the supplier management frameworks and policies.


    Oversee and improve the IT Department’s process for onboarding new vendors or new projects assessing potential risks associated with each vendor and evaluate their compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.


    Ensuring clear handoffs and alignment with wider processes, roles, and accountabilities.


    Establish performance metrics and key performance indicators to monitor effectiveness of IT supplier relationships and software license management.


    Ensures cost-saving initiatives through negotiation, value analysis, and process optimisation. Identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements while maintaining quality standards.


    Deliver training and workshops to those involved in managing third-party relationships, continuously improving their understanding of risk management principles and best practices.


    Build and embed a culture of awareness and continuous improvement within the Supplier Management function.


    Provide strong leadership to the IT Supplier Management team, fostering their development and ensuring high performance.


    Allocates responsibilities and assigns packages of work to groups of staff.


    Optimises the performance of people, measuring and reporting on performance against agreed quality and performance criteria. Gives regular feedback to teams and individuals on performance against agreed work.


    Facilitates effective working relationships within and between teams of staff. Motivates groups of staff and teams towards a high level of performance.


    Acts as a role model for groups of staff, setting a standard, always acting professionally and working to a professional code of conduct and ethics.


    Advises individuals on career paths and encourages pro-active development of skills and capabilities. Provides coaching and mentoring to support professional development.


    Manages probationary periods, setting out the requirements of the job, monitoring progress (e.g., regular meetings) and reacting to variances from expectations, organising training and development as required within appropriate timescales.



Candidates applying for this role must be able to demonstrate the following:-



    Previous relevant work experience and a degree/professional qualification or in supplier management, procurement, or supply chain management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.


    Experience of Third Party Operational/Technology Risk Management, Supplier Management lifecycle and associated reporting.


    Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements related to procurement and supply chain.


    Knowledge of Third-Party management systems e.g. OneTrust, Coupa etc.


    Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.


    Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities, with the capacity to engage with individuals at all levels.


    Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess risks, identify trends, and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.


    Proven experience in driving strategic initiatives and projects related to supplier management.


    In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, industry standards, and compliance requirements.
