Graduate Sales & Manufacturing Engineer
at Walker Rubber Ltd Norwich in Norwich (Published at 27-11-2025)
Walker Rubber has been a leading figure in the rubber manufacturing industry since 1941. We specialise in producing bespoke rubber mouldings, extrusions, and gaskets for a diverse range of sectors including Aerospace, Defence, Marine, and Construction. The business is uniquely positioned to provide bespoke solutions on an exceptionally fast turnaround.
We are currently in an exciting phase of growth with a recent acquisition of a competitor business expanding our capabilities and product offering. We are looking for a dynamic Graduate Engineer to join our team in Norwich to help bridge the gap between our technical manufacturing capabilities and our commercial growth.
The Role
This is a brand-new role designed for a "people-person" with a technical mind. You will primarily be based at our Norwich manufacturing site, working directly with our production and commercial teams. Travel will be required to the newly purchased site in Essex as required.
As our Graduate Sales & Manufacturing Engineer, you will be the technical face of Walker Rubber. Your mission is to understand the engineering challenges our customers face and demonstrate how our manufacturing capabilities can solve them. You will play a pivotal role in integrating the products and services of our newly acquired business into our existing operation from both a process perspective, and a physical relocation.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Manufacturing:
- Feasibility Analysis: Review client CAD drawings and specifications to determine manufacturability whilst creating all relevant internal manufacturing documentation.
- Problem Solving: collaborate with the production team to calculate cycle times, material costs, and tooling requirements for new enquiries.
- Acquisition Support: Learn the technical specifications of our newly acquired product lines and identify synergies with our existing manufacturing processes.
- Quality Assurance: Assist in material selection (polymers/rubbers) to ensure client specifications for durability and resistance are met.
Commercial & Sales:
- Consultative Selling: Handle incoming technical enquiries and proactive outreach, offering engineering advice on sealing and rubber components.
- Quoting & Estimating: Translate technical requirements into commercial quotations.
- Relationship Building: Manage relationships with existing key accounts and proactively follow up on new engineering leads.
- Project Management: Oversee the journey of a product from the initial sales enquiry, through the tooling stage, to final delivery.
The Ideal Candidate
We are not looking for a "hard seller"; we are looking for a Technical Partner who thrives in a face-to-face environment.
- Education: A Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials Science, or similar) is essential.
- Location: You must be based within a commutable distance to Norwich, as this is a fully on-site position whilst willing to travel to Essex as required.
- Personality: You must be outgoing, confident, and articulate. You should enjoy talking to people and have the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Mindset: A natural problem solver who loves figuring out how things work and how to make them better.
- Drive: Ambitious and looking for a career path. As this role supports a new acquisition, there is significant room for career progression as the division grows.
What We Offer
- Work-Life Balance: A 4-day working week, giving you a three-day weekend every week while maintaining a full-time career. (0730-1700 Monday to Thursday and Tuesday to Friday on the bank holiday weeks)
- Mentorship: Direct training from senior management on-site.
- Competitive Salary: £26,000-£30,000 per annum.
- Performance Bonus: Commission structure based on project wins and growth.
- Growth: The opportunity to be a founding member of a new team within an established business.
