Finance Business Partner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Business Partner to join our busy and professional finance team.
We are seeking an experienced FBP, either fully qualified or in the final stages of qualification, with a background in management accounting and working with large data sets. This role offers exposure to senior stakeholders across both finance and our pathology labs.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner – Blood and Tissue, you will act as a key link between central Finance and Synnovis Analytics & Services operations. This is a semi-autonomous role with the opportunity to add real value through proactive collaboration and financial insight.
You will work closely with operational leads to interpret and communicate financial performance, support delivery of budget targets, and identify areas for improvement. Each month, you’ll gather financial and operational data to produce reporting packs, lead variance analysis, and contribute to budgeting and forecasting. You’ll also support business cases, contract reconciliations, and pricing analysis.

As part of the Finance Business Partnering team, you’ll collaborate closely with Operations to help drive performance and deliver financial insight across the organisation. While the role is based at our Head Office, regular engagement with stakeholders and teams across our hospital sites is essential.
Key responsibilities include:
Producing monthly reporting packs using data from multiple financial and operational sources
Partnering with site leads to support decision-making and performance improvement
Conducting variance analysis and contributing to budgeting and reforecasting cycles
Supporting the development of business cases, pricing of new tests, and commercial proposals
Managing monthly contract reconciliations, invoicing, and data accuracy

At Synnovis, we are currently shaping the future of pathology services by creating a world-leading Hub and Spoke pathology network with our NHS partners. A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London. For now, the job you are applying for will be based at one of our hospital sites however, from 1 April 2024 our people and services will start to move to our Hub laboratory in Blackfriars, Southwark, SE1, with some work remaining in refurbished essential services laboratories across our hospital network, focusing on the rapid turnover of urgent tests. Currently our offices are based in Paris Garden, Blackfriars SE1, or Francis House, Southwark SE1 however at present these are temporary locations. We expect to move to new offices in the Hub building located in Blackfriars in 2024.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work closely with non-finance teams (e.g. operations, HR, procurement) to support decision-making
Act as the key finance contact for business area leaders
Presenting performance to SFBP, CFO, COO and Lead FBP
Supporting decision-making around new hires, capital equipment, etc.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
Track actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis and commentary
Reconciliations, journal postings, and month-end P&L close responsibilities
Preparation and circulation of monthly management reporting
Managing the customer contract to make sure payments and charges between the organisations are up to date and disputes are resolved, and contract developments are advanced in a timely manner
Developing pricing for new tests and other service enhancements
Identify cost-saving opportunities and support efficiency initiatives
Monitor cost drivers and improve cost transparency
Supporting the production of quality business cases
Support on ad hoc requirements, as needed
Contribute to the development of financial systems and process efficiencies
Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
Support junior finance staff or lead small teams
Synnovis is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.
