Cook or Chef Full Time

We are looking for an enthusiastic cook, with a flair for creativity and a passion for healthy cooking in a 95 place nursery setting within a green and open space.

Located in Mill Hill

Are you able to manage the pressure of cooking for large numbers, able to plan meals, be aware of allergies and special diets and still remain calm, patient and cool then this might be the perfect position for you!

Nursery Chef required, 40hours per week, all year round.

Hours; Mon-Friday 8am to 5pm OR 8.30am to 5.30pm

Salary-£20,000 to £22,000 per annum

Mill Hill, London

The Role:

  • Preparing a suitably balanced rotating menu taking into account dietary and cultural requirements of the children in line with the Principal?s requirements.

  • The preparation and cooking of all foods in accordance with the daily menus and for special functions.

  • Preventing cross contamination of food within the kitchen area.

  • Ensuring that all foods are ready at the specified time and correctly served. Ensuring that the correct food is served to children with known allergies, as notified to you by the Room Managers daily.

  • Making sure that all foods are covered prior to serving and labelled as required. Also ensuring that foods stored in the refrigerator are adequately covered and labelled.

  • Ordering stock in line with requirements, keeping accounts and budget control. Maintaining correct stock levels, ensuring stock rotation and ensuring all stock is clearly labelled to include expiry dates.

  • Monitoring and recording in writing the temperature of fridge and freezer on a daily basis. Working in line with Safer Food Better Business Manual.

  • Temperatures of high-risk food must be recorded at time of delivery and cooking. All food must be stored and served at the temperatures required by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health-Food Safety.

  • Ensuring the kitchen and equipment is kept suitably clean at all times including walls, floors and trolleys to transport food following a cleaning schedule. On a daily basis that all crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are washed and sterilised in accordance with food safety guidelines.

  • Ensuring the effective and regular removal of waste materials to the designated waste store.

  • Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Principal or Deputy.

Job Requirements;

  • Minimum 2 years experience of working in a NURSERY/SCHOOL kitchen

  • Experience of catering for large numbers

  • Qualification in catering desirable but not essential

  • Level 3 Food Hygiene/Safety required

  • Be organised and plan ahead

  • Have a clear DBS and checkable references

  • Able to multi task

  • Allergy/ Religious diets awareness

  • Additional training in First Aid, Safeguarding, healthy eating desirable but not essential
