The Opportunity

Do you want to sit at the heart of projects, programmes and portfolios, serving our clients end-to-end, from advising them on how to interpret their corporate and business unit strategies and making portfolio-investment decisions, through to designing, building and leading transformation programmes which minimise risk, control costs, maximise quality and deliver business outcomes?

The Project, Programme & Portfolio Management practice has grown significantly over the last few years, and we are now looking for Senior Managers to join our teams to support our expansion in the following key sectors:

  • Products & Services: including Technology, Media and Telecoms, Consumer Products, Industrial Products and Life Sciences.

  • Government & Public Services: including Central and Local Government; Defence & Security and Health

  • Energy & Resources: including Oil and Gas, Power and Utilities, Infrastructure and Transport.

About Project, Programme & Portfolio Management

Project, Programme & Portfolio Management is a team of skilled practitioners with a purpose to effectively deliver outcomes and create benefits that enable our clients to grow, optimise, and protect their organisations.

We work closely with our other teams, including Technology Consulting, Supply Chain & Operations, and Strategy & Transactions, to deliver the following services to our clients:

  • Identify value
    : translate the purpose and vision of the project or programme into a delivery strategy, through business case development and portfolio prioritisation

  • Enable and protect value
    : develop the transformation roadmap, delivery plan and resource model aligned to goals and objectives, implement governance, reporting and stakeholder management to drive better decision making and risk, issue and change management processes to support increased control and greater delivery confidence

  • Deliver value and manage cost
    : manage the day to day activity of the portfolio, programme or project to deliver benefits to the business, manage the financials of the project or programme, assess quality and outcomes and bring programmes back on track through turnaround activity

  • Optimise
    : introduce continuous improvement and performance analytics to support ongoing performance

We enable insightful and timely decision-making at all levels of the organisation, helping clients to answer their key strategic questions, including:

  • Are we clear on our organisation?s purpose in the digital era?

  • What does our future organisation look like? And how do we get there?

  • How do we remain strategically flexible yet also resilient over the long term?

  • Are we choosing the right strategic drivers for our strategy execution initiatives?

  • Can we execute effectively with our current level of capability and capacity? If not fully, what can we execute and in what order?

  • How will we set up a highly effective transformation programme focusing on the delivery of the committed business outcomes?

  • How can we respond quicker to emerging issues impacting our business?

  • How do we get the right people involved in critical decision-making at the right time?

  • How should we structure and govern the transformation?

  • Which delivery partners should we work with?

  • How will we really know if things are on track or not? And if they?re not, how will we turn it around?

  • What does ?complete? look like? And how will I know when we will be there?

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Management of EY teams to develop and implement solutions to help enable the successful delivery of transformation projects, programmes and portfolios

  • Project, Programme & Portfolio Management delivery, within both traditional and agile project environments

  • Development of reports, documents and presentations to assist clients and senior members of the EY team with decision making

  • Management of client stakeholders to achieve alignment and buy-in to a solution or particular direction

  • Own and foster trusted relationships with senior clients that contribute to enhancing EY?s brand and reputation

  • Delivering presentations to senior clients to provide recommendations and solutions to their problems

  • Lead and facilitate client meetings and workshops

  • Build trusted client relationships that contribute to enhancing EY?s brand and reputation

  • Provide leadership, training, coaching, and guidance to junior staff

  • Identify future opportunities within the client or broader sector

  • Contribute to business development, including development of proposals in response to tender opportunities

  • Contribute to internal practice development, around the Project, Programme & Portfolio Management practice and Transformation Delivery sub-competency, as well as within your market sector

  • Contribute to EY?s positioning across the UK (and global), through an active social media presence, and thought leadership development

You may be required to travel regularly as part of your day-to-day client work, and at times work from client site or other EY offices. Our hybrid working practices along with flexible working arrangements will be in place to help you manage the requirement for travel and achieve a lifestyle balance.

A role model to those around you, you will live the values of the Firm daily, coaching and supporting the development of others. You will add measurable value to your clients by delivering work that addresses their biggest problems and priorities, including the need to:

  • Experience working in industry, government or a management consultancy environment

  • Knowledge and experience working on large scale digitally enabled transformation programmes

  • Strong Project, Programme and/or Portfolio Delivery experience

  • Skills and experience in Portfolio, Programme and Project Management

  • Experience of managing teams, including internal staff, clients and wider stakeholders

  • Experience of delivering presentations to senior audiences

  • Strong commercial acumen

  • Ability to analyse complex challenges & deliver insightful, practical solutions

  • The confidence to build lasting relationships and influence senior colleagues and clients in leading roles

To qualify for the role, you must have:

  • Core consulting skills in client management, analysis, presentation and facilitation, and commerciality

  • Ability to make change ?stick? and identify, create and sustain value

  • Strong technical insight and practical knowledge in your specialist area, with specific skills in one or more of the following areas:

    • Project, Programme & Portfolio Management

    • Transformation and / or Programme Delivery

    • Transformation and / or Programme Controls

  • Been educated to degree level or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience

  • The ability to write to a high standard, whilst being fluent/native in English

  • 8+ years? experience within a project, programme and/or portfolio management environment

Ideally, you?ll also have:

  • A proven ability to adapt and learn in an innovative environment

  • Experience of working on large scale, digitally enabled programmes and / or portfolios

  • A qualification in PRINCE2, APM, Managing Successful Programmes and / or Management of Portfolios®
