Interim Project Manager – IT Full Time

What's involved with this role:

Lead the delivery of corporate, strategic and service-based IT projects and initiatives across all service directorates ensuring that projects produce a result capable of delivering the business benefits as specified in the business case. Lead programmes of interrelated projects from the IT Programme as required. Key Responsibilities:
  • Translate stated business requirements into effective and sustainable IT solutions.

  • Manage all stages of a project from contract/proposal initiation including 3rd party solution evaluation, to final operational stage as required.

  • Manage the delivery of the project?s required products using the Change and Release Management processes to ensure effective transition to the operational environment.

  • Manage the expectations of all project stakeholders.

  • Work with appropriate IT staff to deliver future-proof technical solutions and an integrated infrastructure for Council services, in line with the technical architecture road map.

  • Define, document and execute small projects, actively participating in all project phases and producing relevant reports, plans and schedules as required.

  • Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project.

  • Prepares Exception reports with team members and with the Project Assurance role if required. Prepares Highlight reports and End Stage reports for the relevant Project Board.

  • Estimate and monitor costs, timescales and resource requirements for the successful delivery of the project(s) to agreed terms of reference and takes action when these deviate from agreed tolerances.

  • Prepare and maintain realistic project and quality plans and track all activities against the plans, providing regular and accurate reports to senior management, and customer and user management as appropriate.

  • PRINCE2 Practitioner

  • Knowledge & Experience:
    • Extensive knowledge of project management tools and techniques

    • Knowledge of PRINCE 2 project management methodologies

    • Demonstrable experience of the successful management of projects, delivering to time, cost and quality

    • Experience of the design and management of projects to achieve budget savings or income generation target.

  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Clear verbal and written communication skills to write reports and project documentation for a range of audiences

    • Ability to plan, deliver and monitor projects of work, in line with agreed timescales and outputs; ability to contribute to cross-service/agency projects.

    • Ability to bring creative solutions to problems.

    • Ability to develop effective partnerships within the council, with the private sector and other external agencies - both statutory and voluntary.

    • Able to establish positive working relationships, and work closely with elected Members, chief officers, external agencies, community groups and individuals.

  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages
