About the role:

As our Student Mental Health Coach, you will work across the college within a team providing personal support primarily to full-time learners that are deemed ?At Risk ?on a number of pastoral topics.

You will be a Designated Safeguarding Officer, referring internally and externally, sharing information and reports as appropriate.

You will also offer specialist support to students experiencing mental health/wellbeing/behavioural/welfare issues through effective information, support, assessment and referrals from application to completion of their course. As well as this, you will provide training and advice for staff on recognising and supporting students with mental health/wellbeing/behavioural/welfare issues.

Responsibilities as our Student Mental Health Coach:

  • Assess and support students with common mental health problems in their self-management

  • Adhere to the College mental health/wellbeing policy at all times
  • Liaise both with College staff and external agencies to ensure that students needs access an appropriate learning programme
  • Make decisions on suitability of new referrals
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures
  • Support the on-going College application process, interviews, and initial assessment of students support needs
  • Provide input on all issues pertinent to students that have mental health problems
  • Create and deliver workshops and briefings to train/advise teaching staff on wellbeing topics so that they can support students to reach their potential
  • Take ownership of designated aspect lead role within the safeguarding team
  • Undertake, complete and re-assess risk assessments for students that may pose a risk to themselves or others
  • Keep accurate records for all supported student via data bases and internal computer programs

As our
Student Mental Health Coach, you?ll ideally have:

- The confidence and experience to work successfully with students around mental health and safeguarding

  • Able to understand the signs and triggers Mental Health
  • Experience in motivational interviewing and support strategies
  • Ability to work with a varied caseload
  • Experience in working with stress management, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Challenging behaviour, Anxiety, and Depression
  • Ability to instil confidence in staff and students and record all aspects of support given
  • Maintaining high professional standards/working co-operatively with colleagues
  • Ability to work in a team and individually
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work flexibly
