Plymouth CAST, one of the largest Catholic Multi Academy Trusts in the country, is seeking to appoint a Trust Governance Officer and Clerk.

Contract Type: Permanent

The hours for this role are not fixed due to the nature of the post. The salary assumes a weekly quota of 14.8 hours a week over 39 weeks per annum with greater commitment some weeks than others.

  • To attend Board and Committee meetings and ad hoc panel meetings
  • To work at home on their own initiative to meet deadlines.

Plymouth CAST is a Multi-Academy Trust comprising thirty-five schools plus a nursery situated within the Catholic Diocese of Plymouth with whom there is a close working relationship. The Trust is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Governance Officer and Clerk.

As Trust Governance Officer and Clerk, you will be responsible for advising the Academy Trust on constitutional matters, duties and powers to ensure that the Trust works effectively within the current legislative framework. You will be the main point of contact for each Local Governing Board including such items as resignations, nominations, and complaints. You will advise the Clerks to our Local Governing Boards across the Trust which covers Cornwall, Devon and Dorset.

You will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the Board and Committee meetings in preparing agendas and papers and taking accurate minutes and provide full administrative support to the Board. You will ensure that private and confidential data is kept secure at all times.

As Trust Governance Officer and Clerk, you will be accountable to the Chair of the Trust Board with functional responsibility to the Chief Operating Officer. You will work effectively with the Directors, Members, the Chief Executive Officer, Local Governing Boards, and Headteachers across the Trust. You will need diplomacy, openness, approachability, and the ability to converse confidently with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

You will manage the Trust Board calendar, support the Board members in relation to a variety of tasks and attend different CAST meetings throughout the Diocese.

You will have the ability to work with a high level of autonomy, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage your workload effectively adapting to changing priorities.

Essential requirements are:

· Knowledge of governance legislation and procedures

· Demonstrable administrative and secretarial experience

· Knowledge of current educational developments and legislation affecting school governance

· Knowledge of working with ICT tools such as Word, Excel and Google Drive

· Have effective verbal and written communication skills in order to advise and guide the Board on issues

· Have advanced keyboard skills in order to produce documentation using speed and precision (e.g. accurate meeting minutes)
