About You

We are looking for freelance/bank chefs to join our team within the catering department at Tops nurseries. With roles that cover Portsmouth area. The role would include covering leave within our kitchen teams, ensuring smooth day to day running. We are looking for chefs with a positive attitude, great cookery skills, strong allergen management, great organizational skills and flexibility. In return Tops offer a great working environment and competitive pay rate. The position would be subject to the completion of an enhanced DBS check which Tops will process on your behalf.

The successful candidate will:

  • Ideally have a basic food hygiene qualification at level 2 or above

  • Have experience in a similar position of cooking for a large number of people in mass

  • Have a passion for cooking

  • Experience in cooking for people with dietary and cultural conditions

  • Be IT literate and have intermediate skills with Microsoft Office programmes due to ordering and budgeting of food for the nursery

  • Need a clear and valid DBS ? oversee applicants will need a clear and valid certificate of good conduct

Your Responsibilities and Duties will involve:

  • Ensure the hygiene and conditions of the food preparation, from ordering, to clearing and meet the standards as required by the law.
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean and tidy (cupboards kept clean, fridge/freezer defrosted regularly, oven cleaned regularly).

  • Involve yourself as a leading team member of food hygiene team, to ensure that all aspects of food hygiene law adhered to.
  • Provide meals that children enjoy
  • Ensuring food is purchased in good time and within budget.
  • Ensuring any celebrations/dietary needs etc. to be taken into account when costing.
  • Ensuring meals are tailored to the dietary and cultural needs of those requiring them. The meal should be balanced and nutritious, avoiding colourings, preservatives and flavourings if possible.

  • To be committed to the safeguarding of all children in the nursery
