Head of IT Operations and Continuous Improvement Full Time

Salary:
£64,100 - £96,100 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?



Within IT, we are building out our Digital Strategy, Transformation and Commercial (DSTC) team, which is responsible for defining and executing IT's strategic direction, enabling the digital transformation of the SSE group and optimising the commercial performance of the IT business as a whole. Reporting to the Director of DSTC, this is a critical new role where you'll oversee the removal of operational IT impediments and drive continuous improvement activities across all aspects of IT delivery and interfacing corporate functions and business units. You will also be responsible for leading a number of agile transformation activities across IT.
You'll take key responsibility for: -


  • Leading the continuous improvement hub within IT
  • Ensuring all resources and improvement capacity is deployed and prioritised, through the development of an annual plan and strategy for CI deployment across IT.
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders across the entire IT function, Business Unit IT teams and Business Units to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of IT delivery.
  • Establishing an agile practice within the IT function, managing this transformation through upskilling c300 SSE colleagues as well as defining the programme for ensuring our key 3rd party suppliers also work in an agile way.
  • Regular reporting of outcomes and performance against targeted impediment removal, keeping key stakeholders (including Group CIO and CFO) updated of changes, issues and improvements.
  • Ensuring priorities are clearly aligned to business requirements and strategies, with a critical focus on continuous improvement.


What do I need?

Essential to this role will be your experience in agile, CI and lean ways of working, coupled with demonstrable experience of managing continuous improvement activities in a complex, fast-paced environment. This should include experience of setting up an agile practice and leading the transformation of a function through the adoption of agile ways of working.

We'd also like you to have: -
  • Experience of issue prioritisation and resolution, linked to business strategy.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to work with senior stakeholders to distil complex financial and IT information into business-aligned metrics.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills demonstrated by the ability to influence, motivate and encourage others, across all levels.
  • Team management experience, particularly as part of successful business transformation programmes.
  • Experience working within an IT and/or data function would be desirable.
