at Hendy Group Portsmouth in Portsmouth (Published at 27-05-2021)

We make sure no-one is better qualified to look after our vehicles than our Vehicle Technicians. We provide extensive training to manufacturer standards and provide access to regular support and technical information in order to build and maintain a high level of technical competence for diagnosing and servicing vehicles. Within the dealership, we utilise the latest diagnostic technology, tools, and best practice processes to offer our customers the very best assistance with their service or repair, and have confidence in the diagnosis, repair, and servicing of the full range of our Ford & Kia vehicles.

The opportunity?

By conducting full examinations of vehicles (including electric vehicle health checks), you will identify non-routine defects and faults either in the workshop or during vehicle road tests, as well as undertaking the timely repair and servicing of customer vehicles in accordance with Ford & Kia technical standards.

Providing a knowledgeable, courteous, responsive, and efficient service to all colleagues and workshop customers, you will work closely with the front of house service team, ensuring they are kept informed of the progress on customer vehicles and are fully briefed on work completed, as well as discussing technical issues/works directly with customers when requested.

You will also have opportunity to offer technical advice and support to workshop apprentices, and work with the wider workshop team to design and implement new methods of work to improve efficiency.

To be considered?

You will need to be an experienced Vehicle Technician (ideally from a main dealer/franchise environment) with a relevant formal qualification (NVQ Level 3 / IMI / City & Guilds); possess good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to colleagues and customers accurately and concisely; and be passionate about the industry, committed to the development of your technical knowledge and skills. An MOT licence would be highly advantageous, but not essential.

Customer focused, you will keep the customer?s experience and safety in mind throughout each service, diagnosis or repair, and operate with high levels of integrity and honesty. Possessing the skills and behaviours below, combined with a desire to succeed, will allow you to be a success in this role:

  • Team player, happy to assist other Technicians when the workshop is under pressure;

  • Thorough and able to work within defined processes and guidelines, willing to take ownership of any safety issues you identify in the workshop;

  • Quality focused with a first-time fix mentality; and

  • A confident driver with a full UK driving licence.
