Sheffield Deaf/Hearing and Vision Support Service is a well-respected dynamic and creative service focused on meeting the needs of children and young people who are deaf or have a hearing, vision or multi-sensory support need. The service delivers support and direct education through integrated resource provision across the city and through direct specialist teaching and advisory services in mainstream schools, early years and post-16 settings. The service works closely with children and young people, parents, partners and schools to promote inclusion of children across Sheffield and support their successful move to adult life.

During the pandemic we have brought together our services for deaf and hearing-impaired children and children who require vision support to create a single service with clear and specialist expertise. Following the retirement of our current service lead we are looking for an experienced teacher to lead the service forward from September 2021. You will be either a qualified teacher of the deaf or a qualified teacher of the visually impaired. You will have expert knowledge on the best ways to assess and support the education and inclusion of children and young people who have sensory impairment needs. But more than this, you?ll be skilled in building strong partnerships focused on working collaboratively across the education, health and care sector, with schools, parents and children. You?ll be able to lead and inspire to get the best from your team so that they are focused on improved outcomes for all children. You?ll bring the management qualities to be able to manage the team, budgets and bring about service improvement. You?ll be able to ensure that high quality advice and support is put in place to make sure that the needs of children who are deaf or have a hearing or vision support need are identified, assessed, and met across the city.

This is an exciting time to join the Sheffield Deaf/Hearing and Vision Support Service. You?ll be part of a wider 0-25 SEND service within the newly established Education and Skills Directorate all of which is focused on our Inclusion strategy vision of making sure that Sheffield is an inclusive city where we work together to ensure that all children and young people get the right support at the right time so that they can live a happy and fulfilled life.

If you are interested in joining us please contact our current service lead; Caroline Chettleburgh, or Head of SEND; Tim Armstrong to discuss further.
