The role

Based in Liverpool, you will be part of a team of passionate professionals, independently visiting marine assets in the area to carry our classification and statutory surveys and audits. You will also carry out surveys of materials, marine equipment and components in the various local manufacturing facilities.

The role will be appointed at Surveyor or Senior Surveyor level, depending on experience, skills and qualifications.

You will:

  • Build positive relationships with our clients to ensure long term business growth

  • Contribute day-to-day specialist knowledge and assess complex problems - finding a range of alternative solutions

  • Assess the design, production, in-service aspects of engineering assets for complex and demanding situations

  • Lead surveys on specific high risk activities

  • Contribute to external client management; ensuring service delivery is continually improved through monitoring and acting on client feedback as appropriate

  • Take responsibility for personal development; balancing work, safety and life priorities

  • Mentor or coach colleagues as appropriate

  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards

  • Produce reports, certificates and documents to an agreed format and within agreed timescales

  • Undertake routine administration as required in line with current processes and procedures

You will need:

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd's Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of classification rules and regulations, essential statutory requirements, marine in-service classification and statutory surveys, marine repairs, materials and equipment and component surveys

  • Sound working knowledge of marine management systems

  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution

  • To be working towards or achieving chartered engineering status

  • To work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics

  • To be able to analyse and solve engineering issues using theoretical and practical methods

  • To give technical and commercial leadership within the responsibilities assigned

  • Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work

  • A valid driving license for the UK
