The role


The School of Education is seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to make a significant contribution to our work in the field of Racial Justice and Education. The School has widely recognised strengths in research related to: postcolonial and decolonial scholarship in education; social psychological approaches to prejudice; anti-racist policy and practice in schools and university settings. This post will complement and extend that work. We seek to appoint an individual who can bring expertise in, and creative approaches to, the study of race and racism to contribute to our teaching and research programmes on education theory, policy and practice.


What will you be doing?


Applicants should have the potential to play an active part in contributing to research and teaching to support the School of Education?s strong commitment to social, environmental and epistemic justice. The successful individual will be expected to join our creative teaching teams and contribute to the design and delivery of units on our BSc Education Studies, MSc Education, and where appropriate, contribute to related other UG or PGT programmes and our doctoral programmes. They should also be able to supervise research projects at undergraduate and master?s level and develop skills to supervise at doctoral level. The successful individual will actively seek to ensure the wider social impact of their research.

Applications are sought from outstanding candidates whose academic work is demonstrably advancing the theory and practice of Racial Justice and Education. We encourage applications from candidates who have expertise in the study of race and racism in education broadly conceived (e.g. whether in institutional settings such as schools and universities or in communities and social movements). Specialisms in one or more of the following areas are particularly encouraged: Black studies, Indigenous studies, critical race theories; or intersectional studies of class, disability, sexuality and/or gender ? demonstrating how these are brought to bear on education theory, policy and practice relating to race and racism. This might include, but is not limited to, analyses of the links between racial inequality and: geographical inequalities and poverty in education; the rise of biosciences, data sciences and technologies in education; psychological development, or, educational systems and processes, including curriculum, pedagogy and assessment.
