Position Purpose and Primary Accountabilities

To set and facilitate the Bursom Site Food Safety and Sanitation Agendas in accordance with the UK Quality and Food Safety initiatives and regulatory standards for the UK and EU. To be the expert/ specialist in Food Safety issue resolution as needed. To give advice, develop and maintain the HACCP Plan and Site BRC requirements.

  • Own and deliver Operations capability in HACCP, Food Safety, Sanitation and consumer risk protection (CRP) and is a source of advice and guidance for the site in the aforementioned.
  • Co-Ordinate & Facilitate internal and external cleaning activities for master sanitation schedule (MSS), BRC and AIB standards compliance through the shift leadership team and the outside 3rd party contract.
  • Ensure the site HACCP plan is developed, sufficient, followed, maintained and trained per regulatory and third party audit requirements.
  • Influence the QC on shift activities to deliver the food safety, sanitation and HACCP agendas as well as identify necessary external training courses for the site.
  • Communicate clearly to site teams on key activity ? using presentations, informal updates and summarised results. Additionally, clear communication to the outside contracts for appropriate levels of feedback on contract needs.
  • Provide advice and support to Project Teams, Engineering, Safety, Operations and R&D on any activities, services or changes entering the facility. This is prior to the required HACCP evaluation.
  • Manage the overhead budget for sanitation, Cleaning Chemicals, Pest Control and accurately pre cost on site activity and obtain purchase orders upfront for any larger projects in accordance with the site requirements
  • Analyse complex manufacturing problems using root cause analysis techniques to result in effective preventative and corrective actions.
  • Actively participate in lean QCDM meetings, feeding back on any root cause analysis and project teams.
  • Provide advice & Support for the senior leadership team during emergency in any site food safety situations, prompt gathering & analysing of data to support rapid decision making.


  • Knowledge of food manufacturing
  • Computer literate, especially excel and powerpoint
  • Clear written and verbal communicator
  • Experience in sites working to BRC standards (AIB desired)
  • Level 3 HACCP
  • Experience in understanding microbiological swab results
  • Experience in managing allergens
  • Flexible ? able to work around production schedule and first production runs. Ability to flex working day as required. May be needed on Nights-weekends
  • Ability to manage a variety of work streams concurrently
  • Able to work autonomously and seek advice/ escalate issues as required.
  • Must possess mature organisational skills
  • Able to make strong decisions based on statistical information or operator feedback
  • Capacity to show attention to detail and analyse data.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within a very fast changing environment
Desired skills and experience:

  • Level 4 HACCP
  • Level 4 Food Safety
  • Good coaching abilities to identify and develop successors to their role.
