Senior Biomedical Scientist Diagnostic Cytology and Andrology



Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic Diagnostic Cytology and Andrology team at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.



The Diagnostic Cytology and Andrology department processes in the region of ~3000 cytology specimens and ~1000 Andrology specimens per year, and covers a wide range of diagnostic specialties.The laboratory has full UKAS accreditation and is located within a spacious,modern, purpose-built laboratory complex, which opened in August 2007.



We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our dynamic team in providing a high quality, patient-focussed service.



You will be working in a modern well equipped department carrying out a wide range of administrative and technical tasks including sample receipt / data entry, sample preparation and analysis which require attention to detail with good hand-to-eye coordination and manual dexterity being essential. You will function as part of a small, dedicated team, providing support to the Consultant Pathologists, plus supervision of lower grade staff. A BSc in Biomedical Science (or equivalent) is essential for this post, plus a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience and an MSc is desirable. Previous Andrology and Diagnostic Cytology experience is essential.



Excellent numeracy and literacy skills, plus a focus for attention to detail and accuracy are essential. Experience of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word and confidence with IT systems is important as the role involves some data entry.



The Trust runs a low cost park and ride service for staff which is close to the hospital and there is an on-site staff gym and swimming pool for those who wish to become members.
