£46,319 - £61,175 depending on skills and experience



Working Pattern:

About the Department



SSEN owns two Distribution Network Operators (DNO): Southern Electric Power Distribution and Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution. SSEN is actively progressing the transition for each DNO to perform the role of Distribution System Operator (DSO). In the move to low carbon technology and maximum choice and flexibility for system users and customers, the success of this transition is critical to the future of the business.



Within DSO, we have several different departments which include System and Network Planning, Pricing and Forecasting, Operational Technology and our Control Rooms (North & South).



What is the Role?



Our Real Time Systems team provide a system design, project delivery and system support service for the operational applications that are used by our SSEN Network Management Centres to monitor and manage the electricity transmission and distribution networks.



You?ll be part of a project team that manages small and large OT business application projects for critical national infrastructure. You?ll work with a range of internal customers, as well as internal and external service providers and Project Managers.



The role is primarily desk-based but does include occasional visits to other offices and could also include visits to substations and power stations. Generally, pre-planned travel is only required three or four times a year.



What do I need?



To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you have the following to join us:


  • a passion for working with technology and people
  • a degree level (or equivalent) qualification in a Computing, Engineering or Science based discipline or demonstrable practical experience in one of these areas
  • a project management qualification (APMP, PRINCE2 etc) and proven experience of running software implementation projects


Given the nature of the business, there will be some travel to visit other offices and remote sites, therefore it is an essential requirement for this role that you have a full, current driving licence.



We don?t develop software ourselves but work on a day to day basis with people and companies who do, so knowledge of the principles of software and hardware design and experience working with Linux, Windows and database applications would be advantageous.
