Laboratory Technician Full Time

The role

We are now looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our soils laboratory based in Consett on a 1 year fixed term contract. The laboratory uses state of the art equipment to analyse soil and rock samples from our ground investigation projects around the UK. As Laboratory Technician, your role will be to perform laboratory tests using data logging equipment, recording data in handwritten format and entering it into bespoke data processing templates. The test data you create will then provide the basis for the design and modelling of buildings and infrastructure.

  • You enjoy the responsibility of running projects autonomously and taking ownership of your work
  • You have a strong eye for detail and are able to competently and accurately follow set procedures and national standards whilst remaining focused on repetitive work
  • You are proactive and can work independently or as part of a team

Who you?ll be working with:

On a daily basis you will work with our established soil and rock laboratory team as well as the wider Fugro staff based at the Consett office.

Here?s what a typical day would be like:

  • Taking part in team toolbox talk prior to shift activities
  • Preparing soil and rock samples for testing
  • Carrying out various tests on soil/rock samples to client specifications
  • Taking responsibility for your own Health and Safety and that of others around you

Who we?re looking for:

Essential

  • General computer literacy including Microsoft Excel
  • GCSE English, Maths and Science Grades 1-4 or equivalent qualifications
  • Strong communication, teamwork, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Adaptive to changing context of work tasks
  • Ability to work in a safe and risk aware manner

Desirable

Previous experience of working in a laboratory

Please note, we are open to considering those looking for 30 to 40 hours per week between the hours of 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday, although some weekend working will be expected as well. This can be discussed at interview.
