Assistant Headteacher (Teaching & Learning) Full Time

My client is looking for an Assistant Headteacher (Teaching & Learning) to work at a secondary school based around the Edgware area and it is a Full-time Permanent opportunity to start in January 2021.

The focus of responsibility for the post will be the strategic development of teaching and learning across the whole school, including the development and training of staff. The successful candidate will have the potential and enthusiasm to be an active and influential senior leader with an ambition to progress further in their leadership career.

Key purpose:

  • Carry out the duties of this post in line with the remit outlined in the current School Teachers? Pay and Conditions Document including the conditions of employment for assistant headteachers and the Teachers? Standards (June 2013)
  • Take on the strategic development of teaching and learning across the whole school
  • Take full accountability for key areas of the school?s work, including KS4 achievement; raising the quality of teaching and learning within the school
  • Develop an ethos of high expectations of staff and students and an adaptable and positive approach to innovation
  • Under the overall direction of the headteacher play a major role: in formulating curriculum intent and the aims of the school, including establishing the policies through which they are to be achieved: in leading and evaluating the implementation and impact of the curriculum: in sharing responsibility for school policies, decision-making and strategic planning: proactively manage staff and resources
  • Take on the responsibilities of the headteacher as agreed and appropriate in the absence of the headteacher and deputy headteacher
  • Carry out the professional duties of a teacher as required
  • Take responsibility for child protection issues, as appropriate
  • Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school

The successful candidate will:

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant experience of senior leadership in secondary education
  • Well qualified graduate with Qualified Teacher Status
  • Successful leadership and management in the delivery of leading edge, high quality education
  • Experience of successful leadership and change management
  • Evidence of continuing professional development including working towards or attainment of Leadership Pathways, NPQH or NPQSL

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience of managing curriculum development
  • Ability to identify and promote school improvement in creative and innovative ways
  • Proven leadership, management and teaching skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability of whole school data analysis and target setting
  • Ability of whole school assessment and reporting
  • Knowledge of developing and leading whole school CPD
  • Knowledge of current initiatives in education especially in terms of personalised learning and student progress
  • Knowledge of current initiatives in education especially in terms of raising standards and achievement
  • Ability to maintain a positive and supportive culture within the school
  • Knowledge of examination processes
  • Competent in the use of ICT.
