A fantastic opportunity is open for a student wanting to take a ?gap year? in 2020-2021 in an IT and or Cyber Security related degree, to join our IT team on a year-long fixed term contract. The role will provide experience of working within a Desktop Support team, providing day to day IT Support as well as completing BRE?s Windows 10 migration project. Additionally, the successful candidate will gain exposure to practical IT Security operations and changes focused on further improving cyber security defences and retaining the Cyber Essentials Plus certification.

The successful candidate will be Customer Orientated, Professional, enthusiastic, driven, ambitious with an innovative mind set. The role will be based at BRE?s Watford site, although periods of home working are likely due to Covid-19 and the work assigned.

How will I add value in this role?

  • Put the Customer at the centre of all that IT do, build and maintain relationships with business Users to ensure appropriate and agreed services are delivered.

  • Provide high-quality IT support to BRE staff, resolving IT incidents to ensure staff can continue to work effectively. Increasingly, BRE staff work from home and providing remote support is required.

  • Assist with the installation of new devices, re-imaging existing devices, trouble-shooting issues in line with BRE standard operating procedures and ensuring ?asset? records are kept up to date.

  • Work with BRE IT staff and external partners (as required) to develop and test new configurations, maintain existing configurations and trouble-shoot issues, so that the IT Service responds to BRE?s changing business needs.

  • Participate with in the diagnosis, isolation, fault resolution, remediation and recovery of; User IT devices following service impacting and/or security incidents.

  • Actively participate in team & project meetings and communication with the team and with other stakeholders to discuss & improve the delivery of IT Services.

  • Help coordinate or provide early life support when changes are to be deployed to groups of BRE staff to limit the impact on BRE?s business and generally help BRE staff adopt the new technology.

Must have: (essential skills)

  • Be part way through a cyber-security-based degree or IT Infrastructure degree and looking for work experience as part of a gap year or sandwich placement.

  • Knowledge of how to understand customer needs, and how to deliver an excellent customer service.

  • Ability to manage their own schedule with little supervision and to work effectively on own initiative or as part of a small team to meet challenging operational deadlines and confident to communicate issues or difficulties with completing the assigned tasks.

  • Good Microsoft Office365 skills and able to deliver high quality support documentation as required.

  • Ability to follow operating procedures, and company standards and documentation, including operating manuals, design documents and asset lists within IT Service Management tools.

  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely.

  • Experience of troubleshooting of User IT device issues, including the remote management of devices.

  • Knowledge of Windows 10 and Apple operating systems.

  • Knowledge of IT Service management best practice and/or cyber security operations.

  • Able to quickly acquire new skills and to work with new technologies and tools

  • Interest in cyber security operations to;

  • understand output from vulnerability and/or penetration testing activities to assist with remediation activities,

  • assist with the configuration of and reporting from end-User training programmes,

  • understand security device logs to support the planning of future changes to security policies, and with the implementation of new security controls.

  • Able to apply analytical and pro-active structured thinking to evaluate data and diagnose problems.

Great to also have: (desirable skills & experience)
  • Knowledge of Windows server, Linux operating systems and/or vmWare would be an advantage.
