The IPE team is part of the Supply Chain Optimization Technology (SCOT) Team within the Operations Organization. The charter of the SCOT team is to maximize Amazon?s return on our inventory investment in terms of Free Cash Flow and customer satisfaction. We accomplish this through determining of how much inventory Amazon needs of each SKU and what to do if we have too much. This puts the IPE group at the nexus of operations, logistics, capacity planning, and our retail business teams. As an Amazon Senior Data Engineer (Sr. DE), you will be working in one of the world's largest and most complex data warehouse environments. We maintain one of the largest data marts in Amazon as well as work on Business Intelligence reporting and dashboarding solutions that are used by thousands of users world-wide. Our team is responsible for mission critical analytical reports and metrics that are viewed at the highest levels in the organization. We are also working on newer tools that help users discover data using visualization and Big Data technologies.
You should have deep expertise in the design, creation, management, and business use of extremely large datasets. You should have excellent business and communication skills to be able to work with business owners to develop and define key business questions, and to build data sets that answer those questions. You should be expert at designing, implementing, and operating stable, scalable, low cost solutions to flow data from production systems into the data warehouse and into end-user facing applications. You should be able to work with business customers in a fast paced environment understanding the business requirements and implementing reporting solutions. Above all you should be passionate about working with huge data sets and someone who loves to bring datasets together to answer business questions and drive change. You will work in a team of Software Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Researchers, and Product Managers, across multiple teams.
You love building tools and data pipelines, can create clear and effective reports and data visualizations, and can partner with stakeholders to answer key business questions. You will also have the opportunity to display your skills in the following areas:
  • Owning the design, operations and improvements for the organization?s Datawarehouse infrastructure.
  • Engineering solutions to aggregate and automate large scale data flows from varying sources.
  • Collaborate with Engineers and Scientists in the organization to construct complex data sources for algorithms and machine learning models.
  • Explore and learn the latest AWS technologies to provide new capabilities and increase efficiency.
  • Build, analyze and present actionable data to drive business and product management decisions.
  • Help continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers.

  • Masters graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, related technical field
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices across development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Knowledge of Advanced Statistics and implementing ML models.
  • Build real time streaming from internal and external sources to provide insights to the business
  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for best practices on data engineering
  • Strong business acumen, proven ability to influence others, strong attention to detail, excellent organization skills, and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Comfortable in a Linux environment
  • Demonstrated experience delivering actionable insights for a consumer business
  • Experience in supply chain is a plus.
