Feature Writer - Daily Mirror Full Time

The Daily Mirror is looking for a Feature Writer to join the team in Canary Wharf. The successful candidate will provide the Features Desk with compelling and agenda-setting content for print and digital platforms.

Last year we sold 540 million newspapers, and our network of over 70 websites provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, viewed by 110m unique browsers every month.

Key Responsibilities
  • To generate exclusive features and news features providing comprehensive, accurate, fascinating and impeccably written coverage.

  • Pro-actively source and provide creative, well-written, informative features, whether a breaking news story, celebrity interview, fascinating real life, backgrounder or investigation.

  • Present the Features Desk with regular ideas for stories, investigations, and agenda-setting features.

  • Equally able to bring in a splash or write a beautiful colour piece.

  • Regularly write directly for digital platforms.

  • Contribute to the news website blogs, digital podcasts, live web chats and video content where required.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Demonstrate the highest level of reporting and writing skills, initiative and sound judgement in a demanding newspaper environment.

  • Drive to get to the story first and lead the agenda.

  • Work under pressure and to deadline.

  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of current affairs.

  • Have a bulging contacts book of freelances, agencies and contacts to regularly bring in fantastic exclusives.

  • Demonstrate a sound grasp of the political and moral stance of the titles and to identify and develop stories accordingly.

  • Show ability to turn complicated facts and events into easy-to-read, informative, well-written stories and features.

  • Display a high level of creativity and originality.

  • Sound and up-to-date legal knowledge.
