Apprentice Engineer Full Time

The role: An opportunity has arisen for an apprenticeship; the successful candidate will be working alongside the engineering staff and reporting to the lead engineer. As well as undertaking repairs the candidate will also be responsible for helping maintain and service the equipment and machinery used within the production facility based in Melton Mowbray. The equipment includes - automated saw centres, plastic welding machines, and automated frame/sash cleaning machinery.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Support engineering staff in maintenance functions

  • Learn and develop skills to effectively maintain equipment and machinery (which includes, but is not limited to):

  • Automated saw centres

  • Plastic welding machines

  • Automated cleaning machinery

  • Assisting Lead Engineer in the completion of PPM (planned preventative maintenance) activities

  • Learn how to effectively find faults on electrical control circuits, control systems and motors

  • Become capable of working with PLC control systems and computer-based operating systems

  • Ability to work safely and follow appropriate working practices and codes conduct

  • Able to effectively undertake routine maintenance (PPM?s)

  • Learn to diagnose faults on mechanical systems and undertake appropriate corrective actions

  • Develop knowledge of pneumatic circuits and how to undertake repairs on pneumatic circuits

  • Ensuring that daily logs are coherent, recorded accurately and regularly maintained

  • Learn to confidently read engineering and technical drawings (without relying on regular support)

  • Develop skills to undertake root cause analysis and implement corrective actions

  • An interest in engineering and quality control

  • Willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge/skills and positive attitude to work

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent - C/4 grade or above in maths, English Language and a Science (essential)

  • 5 x GCSEs or equivalent are required to be considered for this apprenticeship

Loughborough College are situated off Epinal Way, Loughborough. You will be expected to be committed to the apprenticeship and be on time for lessons when in college weekly.
