The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing a team of Buyers to purchase all raw materials require for operations. This includes purchases triggered by MRP as well some manual spreadsheet-based systems and purchase requisitions. The Purchasing Manager drives the Purchasing function to achieve NJ?s Operational objectives regarding all incoming raw materials and consumables. With strong experience in purchasing and stock control, the Purchasing Manager will take a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations and implementing changes, taking full ownership of stock movement transactions carried out on the ERP system and ensuring that the appropriate checks and balances are in place to guarantee accuracy. The role is key to leading the Company forward in managing suppliers of materials and components and all related master data, such as price, payment terms, lead times, OTIF and quality targets.

Scope

The Purchasing Manager will report to the Head of Supply Chain and will support a number of internal customers including Sales, Account Management, Finance and the Warehouse Manager. The scope of the Purchasing Manager role covers but is not restricted to:

Materials

Garments, Inks, Components, Decorative items (flock, foil, beading etc), Packaging

Consumables

Engineering spares, Stationery, equipment etc.

Third Party Finished Goods

Licensed accessories for resale in the UK & Europe (Bioworld International).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing and controlling all the company?s external suppliers with regard to the purchase of materials and bought in parts for production and overhead items.
  • Ensure that all materials and parts are bought at the most competitive fully landed cost and delivered on time for production, including regular price, quality and service reviews with existing suppliers.
  • Ensure that all other consumables are bought at the most competitive price and that delivery, quality and service meet the required standards.
  • Monitoring stock transactions for accuracy
  • Preparing costings and analysis of data
  • Make arrangements as required for consignment stock
  • Foster close working relationships with associated departments e.g. Sales, Account Management, Finance and Warehouse staff
  • Supplier visits both in the UK and abroad as required. Such visits may be at short notice.
  • Accurate and timely communication to all relevant parties on the delivery schedule
  • Responsible for end to end associated administration, including raising PO?s, arrangement of LC?s and management of all associated paperwork whilst orders are in progress.
  • Maintain and update all material master data on Syspro (price, lead time etc.)
  • Maintain accurate ?Stock Availability? information and provide weekly updates to key stakeholders
  • Proactively drive actions on customer owned stock and Nj owned stock to maximise turns and cash flow accordingly.
  • To carry out a comprehensive review of the Purchasing function and its methodology and identify and implement improvements.
  • Any reasonable task requested by the company.

Essential:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in a business-related subject
  • Minimum 5 years previous experience in a Purchasing role
  • High competency level in use of Microsoft Excel - Intermediate
  • Full Driving License required.
  • Proven track record of controlling and reducing external spend.
  • Aware of current best practise in procurement and purchasing techniques.
  • Experience of managing an international supply base
  • Management, administration and coordination of purchasing activities in relation to Cost, Delivery and Quality performance

Desirable:

  • CIPS qualified or working towards (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply)
  • High competency level in use of Microsoft Excel - Advanced
  • Experience representing the buying function at internal meetings and presenting purchasing performance data
  • Strong stock control background
