Mediwise has developed a platform ?see though skin? technology with smart materials with a wide range of applications in the field of non-invasive diagnostics. Mediwise developing solutions for three core applications:

1. Non-invasive glucose sensor for continuous blood glucose monitoring,

2. A RF imaging system for early diagnostic of breast cancer, and

3. A Metasurface to increase the scanning speed of an MRI machine drastically. Mediwise?s labs are located at the QM Bio-enterprises innovation centre close to Royal Hospital of London, in Whitechapel.

Job Summary

Our people are the driving force behind our successes, and our team is growing. At this time, MediWise offers an exciting opportunity to join as a Metamaterial Design Engineer to develop metamaterial for enhancing MRI imaging. We are expecting an Engineer or a post graduate student to work up to 15 hours/week and renumeration will depend on the qualification and experiences.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

While the role and responsibilities will vary based on business priorities, they would include:

  • Literature study of existing and novel metamaterial for MRI
  • Design and numerical evaluation of the metamaterial to improve the field strength and signal to noise ratio (SNR) of an MRI
  • Use a range of dielectric materials with metal structure to design the device with right form factor for use in a MRI machine.
  • Use 3D electromagnetic simulation to evaluate the device performance and improvement
  • Construct the optimum design and measure using our in-house Vector Network Analyzer to validate the prototype.


  • Bachelors/ Masters in RF and Microwave Engineering.

UK work authorization

  • Working towards PhD on Metamaterial (preferred)


  • 2+ years of experience on designing Metamaterial for RF applications
  • Solid understanding on RF and Microwave theory.
  • Self-motivated and a good team player with effective communication skills.
  • Work in collaboration with team members
  • Knowledge on MRI physics (preferred)

Skills required

  • Expert user of 3D electromagnetic simulation software packages such as CST or HFSS
  • Experience of using high frequency measurements tools i.e. spectrum analyzer, power meter and network analyzer is essential
  • Team player who enjoys working with different disciplines.
  • High level of independence on the job Effective oral and written communications skills, self-motivated
  • Ownership and accountability
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional working groups, skill levels and expertise in a global environment
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Contribute to building a positive team spirit.
