Burnley FC in the Community is the award-winning, official charity of Burnley FC with a mission to inspire, support and deliver change within communities across Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale, the Ribble Valley and West Yorkshire. The charity is now looking to recruit to a brand-new role of Pendle Interventions Teacher.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of driving and shaping a new pilot project ‘Positive Goals’, led by Burnley FC in the Community in close partnership with Pendle Education Trust and Pendle Vale College.

As partners we believe in creating the best opportunities for learning and success and enhancing the life chances of our young people. Positive Goals aims to support Key Stage 3 children who may be struggling to achieve in the classroom, for any number of reasons, and provide an alternative environment to support their needs.

The children will remain members of their school but have a variety of interventions to break down their barriers to learning and support the development of a positive mind-set that ensures they can meet their full potential.

The learning environment will be in a separate purpose-designed building and will be enhanced by access to other BFCitC facilities including Leisure Box, Whitehough outdoor centre and UCFB Turf Moor.

All partners in the project are committed to ensuring it achieves its goals and to re-integrating the children involved back into their schools with a revitalised and positive approach to learning.

High quality curriculum and teaching will be provided to all the children involved and they will also benefit from mentoring support, careers guidance. extra-curricular and reward opportunities and a positive learning environment.

Role and Responsibilities

  • To lead on planning and teaching for a small group of KS3 students selected from the three schools with particular focus on the core subjects.
  • To develop and implement students’ individual or personal learning plans, incorporating target setting and ensuring all students progress at expected rates and achieve relevant qualifications according to their level.
  • To effectively liaise with schools and work collaboratively with designated staff around developing preventative programmes for students at risk of exclusion.
  • To attend meetings in the schools where appropriate and develop good working relationships with them.
  • To manage and oversee the transition and reintegration process of students back into the mainstream schools or other settings.
  • To manage the behaviour of the students within a clearly communicated behaviour management system and to develop new behaviour management techniques when required.
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to this role.
  • To be able to work flexible and unsociable hours where the role of the job requires.
  • To work towards agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • To comply with all policies.
  • To promote the Burnley FC in the Community brand and ethos in a professional, strong and positive manner.
  • To work alongside other team members to support in other areas of the organisation as and when required to promote best practice.

Remuneration + benefits:

£24,000 – £30,000 per annum

Full time 35 hours per week: usual working day 8.30am-4.30pm

Term time plus three weeks

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • A degree level qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) / PGCE (or equivalent).
  • Experience of working with children who are disengaged display challenging behaviour and in need of additional support.
  • Experience of teaching the core subjects.
  • Experience of teaching KS3 pupils.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £24,000.00 to £30,000.00 /day
