Multi Skilled Engineer - Nightshift Full Time

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Engineering Department for a Multi Skilled Engineer. The main purpose of the role:

  • Perform reactive and proactive maintenance on a variety of process and packaging equipment across all sites.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns across site to provide minimal downtime.
  • Support Production to facilitate production efficiency.
  • Perform ancillary building maintenance across all sites.
  • Maintain breakdown /ppm documentation (Pirana).
  • Involvement with various projects from Machinery and systems build.

*The role is offered on a 6 month fixed term contract with the potential to be made permanent.

Hours: 2130 to 0600 Sunday to Thursday. One Saturday shift per month up to a maximum of 8 hours.

Key Accountabilities

Health & Safety

  • Abide by the company safety policies as contained in the Health & Safety Manual and related documentation

Food Safety

  • Work diligently to ensure any risk from engineering maintenance to product is eliminated


  • Operate in a safe manner, minimising risk to self and others at all times
  • Continually strive to improve engineering standards in the business
  • Accurately maintain equipment documentation on CMMS (Pirana)
  • Populate and maintain the Technical records, OEM manuals and electrical drawings for the business equipment and facilities
  • Support a lean, effective maintenance strategy
  • Identify and specify critical spares requirements and author Tasks and Bill of Materials in CMMS
  • Resolve breakdowns across site to minimise downtime, analyse root cause and ensure follow on work is completed
  • Monitor equipment performance to improve preventive maintenance
  • Support and mentor Production, Hygiene and Logistics staff to maximise use of plant equipment
  • Proactively search out improvement opportunities that will deliver Safety, Quality, Cost, Performance and Reliability benefits for the business
  • Complete building and services maintenance across all sites
  • Involvement with various projects from modification, equipment and buildings installation
  • To work shifts as necessary to cover the operation as laid out in your working contract
  • Flexible approach to hours, covering all eventualities. Hours to suit business needs

Qualifications and Skills

Personal Requirements


  • Electrical or Mechanical skilled training
  • Recognised trade qualification e.g. NVQ II, ONC
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent people leadership ability
  • Experience in FMCG Food Production or similar, particularly metal detection, printing, weighing, heating control, refrigeration and coating lines
  • Flexible approach
  • Used to working weekends and unsociable hours
  • Excellent time management


  • HNC/HND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Multi skilled training
  • Working knowledge of PLC, Inverter and process control instruments
  • IOSH or NEBOSH training
  • Experience of Lean Principles, 5S, CI
  • Apprentice trained
  • Food manufacturing background
  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Excellent IT skills with Excel, Spreadsheets, Word, PowerPoint and production support systems

Salary: £35,000.00 to £36,000.00 /year

Salary: £36,000.00 to £38,000.00 /year
