Role Description

A fantastic technical leadership opportunity has arisen in the Global Digital Channels Platform Architecture Team. Aviva Digital has been building out our core Contact Centre Digital capability through a new customer focused platform.

The role holder will be accountable for the definition, delivery and governance oversight of the MyContact platform technology roadmap, strategy and engineering capability. The day to day work will include but is not restricted to:

  • Define and maintain the end-state technology roadmap and software architecture for the sales platforms to support Aviva’s digital ambitions, including the definition of continuous delivery capability, aligned to
    • Required business capabilities & immediate business portfolio needs
    • Relevant regulations (e.g. GDPR)
    • Relevant Aviva IT Strategies
  • Drive the delivery of this roadmap within their platform.
  • Govern and build code delivered within the platform so it is in line with the roadmap, meets agreed quality and security standards.
  • Engage business and IT stakeholders so they understand the technology choices and how it aligns to their accountabilities/outcomes
  • Collaborate with Platform, Software and Solution Architects across Digital to ensure appropriate use of platform technology in solutions.
  • Implement, enhance and govern technology engineering standards, approaches and metrics for the platform.

This is very much a hands-on role where you will work with the development teams on a day to day basis. You will in conjunction with the aligned Software Architect be the technical leaders of this team, you will provide guidance, insight and platform level decision making when required.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • A focus on leading secure design practises
  • Software design education and mentoring of inexperienced colleagues.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Agile Development processes including Scrum and Kanban
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Excellent planning and control skills capable of driving effective functional governance frameworks and decision-making
  • Have a strong working knowledge of Agile Software Architectures, Solution Architectures, Test and Behaviour Driven Development.
  • Negotiating, influencing, effectively challenging and gaining commitment
  • Excellent knowledge of industry direction and trends within Web and Mobile application development.
  • Shaping product backlogs, new projects and initiatives, assessing the impact of initiatives, programmes or projects on systems/applications.

Required Technical Experience:

  • Strong background in systems design and development.
  • Strong background in the development of evolutionary architectures
  • Strong background in system and platform design with responsibility for delivering large scale, multi-project technical solutions throughout the entire development life cycle from inception to operation
  • Strong understanding of non-functional design principles.
  • Strong Understanding of Software Design Patterns including SOLID development principles.
  • Experience of cloud & cloud native applications and 12 Factor principles.

Valuable Technical Experience:

  • A background or recent experience in Web Development
