Lead Visual Designer Full Time

We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a Lead Visual Designer to join our amazing UI team here at Aviva. This is a permanent role based in London. The role will pay up to £80,000 per annum basic salary.


You will be one of 4 lead visual designers reporting to the Head of Design. You will be leading a team of UI designers that create digital products that help our customers build financial resilience.


As one of the Lead Visual designer in the digital team, you will be passionate about solving Design Challenges. Your primary focus will be to mentor and develop the team. To ensure your team delivers high fidelity mock-ups that are pixel perfect. Your team will be working primarily on responsive web and mobile app design however they could also be involved in concept design, illustration and icon design. You should have great visual design skills and have the ability to mentor and develop your team to get the best out of them and to improve them as designers. You will know how to get your team to apply designs to interactive products. Great Typography, Colour theory, and the willing to push creative boundaries, should all be part of your genetics, attention to detail is as important to you as creativity. You will work closely with UX designers, copywriters, UX research, product owners and developers to craft the shape and the look and feel of the experience.

What we’re looking for

  • Working as a leadership team, be one of the Lead designers in the UI team. Set, review, challenge and communicate the design system direction to your team of designers
  • Line management / performance management responsibility for the UI design team
  • Working as a leadership team, Mentor and develop talent. Review the team’s objectives on an ongoing basis and improve the collective capability and toolsets of the team
  • Working as a leadership team, Creating workflow Prioritisation. To help the Head of Visual Design develop our process and be accountable for the final output
  • Working as a leadership team to develop a close partnership with UX, development and other key teams within the business
  • Working as a leadership team to develop new technology, design trends and emerging UI patterns
  • Working as a leadership team to create striking visual designs that follow our digital asset library, that are consistent, coherent, pixel perfect across our platforms and products globally
  • Working as a leadership team to simplify complex interaction problems and champion a user centred design methodology
  • Working as a leadership team to ensure that designs look great before go live.
  • You will have excellent knowledge working with Invision
  • You will have excellent knowledge working with Sketch
  • You will have excellent knowledge working with Invision
  • You will have worked at a world class digital organisation (client or agency) designing web and app experiences
  • You will have a varied and exciting Digital Portfolio
  • You will have experience of working on responsive web design across a range of devices
  • You will have an eye for typography, colour, layout, brand systems, and a pixel perfect attention to detail.
  • You will have worked collaboratively with developers to make your design a reality in code in an agile environment.
  • You will have a working knowledge of current user experience design principles, standards and trends.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate your designs and ideas confidently and engagingly and the ability to present work and interface with all levels of management
  • You will have strong experience working with interactive content and efficient at creating Pixel perfect production-ready artwork and assets
  • You will be familiar with using zeplin to send your finished designs to the dev team.
  • You will have excellent knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, in particular Photoshop and Illustrator
  • You will have understand the challenges of working in a large organisation.

Basic Qualifications

  • BA or HND in Graphic or Visual Design, Digital Media Design or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in digital visual design (in-house or client-side) designing products and features for mobile or desktop, native or web.
  • Have a portfolio that exhibits solid architectural and detailed design thinking, a solid grasp of information architecture, web or mobile technologies, and expert and inspiring visual design.
