Job Description:
Manage up to ten direct reports (Team Leaders and consultant engineers); pastoral care, resourcing, career progression and yearly review of salaries and bonuses for a team of approximately fifty process engineers.

Reporting Lines and Interactions:
Reports to : Head of Create Engineering

Directly supervises : Early Phase Project Engineering Team

Key Responsibilities:
Daily liaison with the Head of Create Engineering to keep informed on all aspects of the Early Phase Project Engineering Team;

Day-to-day resource management of the Early Phase Project Engineering team, including direct liaison with and coordination between Project/ Study Managers and Team Leaders, to allocate appropriate personnel across a range of projects (accounting for existing skills and learning opportunities);

To maximise utilization within the group;

Maintenance of the Early Phase Project Engineering resource chart with input to the wider Create Engineering team resource management process;

Management of overall team non-reimbursability and allocation of resources to corporate projects and initiatives;

Liaison with HR and Head of Create to identify resource development opportunities and meet wider project and training rotation scheme objectives;

Work with HR and Head of Create to define roles and responsibilities and expected grade capabilities for the Early Phase Project Engineering team;

Work with HR and Head of Create to identify internal and external training courses and implement professional accreditation scheme requirements;

Oversee the appraisals process, working with Head of Create and the Team Leaders, including setting objectives and identifying development opportunities;

Overall review of appraisals across wider process and development engineering team to ensure continuity of assessment;

Conduct contractor feedback;

Yearly review with Head of Create Engineering of salaries and bonuses for entire Early Phase Projects Engineering team, including recommendations for promotions;

Recruitment (including interviewing) of appropriate hires for all grade levels;

Implementation of technical and procedural improvements including development of technical tools to increase the efficiency of the team;

Overall responsibility for the up-keep of the Process and Development Engineering suite of design tools and intranet page, including management of the Design Tools Coordinator;

Overall responsibility for the up-keep of the Process and Development Engineering library of information including Technical Notes;

Overall responsibility for the Lunch and Learns;

Routine liaison with Process Skills Group Managers throughout the wider Genesis;

Monitoring and control of overheads, including management and control of the training and social budget for the group;

Up-keep of group emails and distribution lists including dissemination of corporate updates as agreed with Head of Create Engineering.

Responsible for overall team pastoral care. You will need to liaise regularly with the team and understand their strengths and weakness to ensure best fit with project requirements.

The Process Engineering Skills Group Manager will continue to work on projects to further their technical and/or Project Management development, in addition to performing the Process Engineering Skills Group Management responsibilities defined above.

Skills Required (Experience and Qualifications):Essential Competencies:
Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels of the organisation;

Knowledge of organisational best practice;

Good command of the English language;

Experienced engineer, currently operating at A1 grade or equivalent, preferably with operational experience as lead discipline engineer across different phases of projects.

Desirable Competencies and Experience:
Conversant with all phases of process design and an ability to explain complex concepts in a straightforward manner.

FIChemE or working towards FIChemE.
